SCHOONER AMERICA

ON GOING RESTORATION OF THE SCHOONER AMERICA

THIS RARE AND BEAUTIFUL MODEL WAS BUILT ABOUT 100 YEARS AGO AND IS BALLASTED FOR SAILING.
THE HULL WAS ORIGINALLY CARVED AND THEN HOLLOWED AND THE SINGLE DECK PIECE FITTED.ALTHOUGH VERY DRY AND DISTORTED ALONG THE DECK LINE, THE MODEL IS IN EXCEPTIONAL CONDITION FOR ITS AGE.
OUR RESTORATION INSTRUCTIONS ARE THAT THE MODEL SHOULD RETAIN AS MUCH OF ITS ORIGINAL CHARACTER AND MATERIALS AND WHERE PAINTWORK CAN BE SAVED BUT RESTORED, THIS SHOULD HAPPEN. LIKEWISE, THE MASTS AND SPARS SHOULD ONLY BE REPLACED IF REPAIR WOULD DETRACT FROM THE VISUAL AND STRUCTURAL INTEGRITY OF THE MODEL.
THE MODEL WILL NEVER SAIL AGAIN BUT WE ARE CUTTING JAPARA COTTON SAILS TO THE SAME SPECIFICATION AS IF SHE WAS AGAIN DESTINED FOR THE WATER!
